2/20/06

Treadmill: 3.5%, 30 minutes, 6.1-6.6 mph, unknown distance
Elliptical: 25 minutes
Average HR: 168

It felt much better this time. I did a 20 minute run and two 5 minute runs while really pushing it. Is that the wrong approach? If I can't do it continuously, maybe I'm pushing too hard?

Relay race coming up on Sunday, basically a 5K for me, a 5K for J...

i think that's actually a suggested way to increase speed. not that you need to go any faster...

Jayfish is right. Interval training is a way to increase speed.

As for level of effort, there are schools of thought that you should be able to talk as part of training runs. If you can't talk you are training too hard. You are using the heart rate monitor so get in the proper "zone" and viola.
